Epipremnum aureum (Devil's Ivy / Pothos) Houseplant Care — 11 of 365

  • Yayınlanma Tarihi:  1 ay önce
  • Probably one of the most widespread houseplants, Epipremnum aureum, otherwise known as Devil's ivy (for its ability to spread) and Pothos, ranks as one of the easiest houseplants to grow, and highly recommended for beginners. It can grow in a range of lighting conditions and can handle a range of watering conditions as well. This one that I'm showing you is a bit parched, but will easily perk right back up with a little drink. You can check out more of these videos here and on my IGTV @homesteadbrooklyn. I have no luck propagating this in soil, the first/last time I tried to they just went limp and died. I cut some today though and put it in a mix of potting soil/cactus/perlite. I'm going pray to the plant gods that they'll survive this time because if not, they're just going to be placed in water forever :(

I bought my pothos in 2012 and it was unscathed by a massive pest infestation that wiped out half of my collection in 2014. It has followed me in living in 11+ different homes and situations. The thing can't die. I did notice that it was pretty sensitive to full western exposure in summer, but other than that, it's a beast.

I have a cutting of the golden pothos in water. Hoping to put in soil soon.

Currently own Golden, Neon, N Joy, Marble Queen, and possibly a Silver, which some also refer to as a Philodendron, depending upon who you ask. Love them. N Joy is my favorite.

Thank you for the series 😊
My neon pothos is rather small O got it as a rooted cutting and it has five leaves now. It recently grew a new leaf, which later became variegated with darker green colour (sharp green edges of the variegation). Is it due to light deficiency? Od maybe it is a mutation? And above all, can one induce variegation in a plant?

I would love to watch a video from you, Summer, about humidifying an air in interior conditions. I think I need to start measuring it and I'm not sure if it's actually necessary. And all of those humidifiers - do they help? I've heard so many different opinions.

Loving this series, I have several varieties of Pothos, Cebu Blue, Marble Queen, Pearls and Jade, and Golden Pothos, I love them all and they are so easy to grow and propagate.

I learned the hard way that it’s possible to rot them out in low light conditions by not letting them dry a bit between waterings. Better to keep them too dry as they will recover from wilting but not very well from rotting.

I live in Oahu and Golden Pothos is (variegated variety specifically) EVERYWHERE! But its incredible to see the giant split leaves as it matures. As soon as I found large pot and stake to climb, leaves have in short time increased in size and seems to mature so quickly. Excited for it.

Hi Summer! I'm really enjoying this series. It's very informative and helpful. Covering one plant at a time can be less confusing, and easier to go back and find. I love the devil's ivy! One of my favorite pothos. Thank you for sharing!

    Hi Summer

I really want some sort of vine that can grow inside my room. Something that can grow on my walls and ceiling. Preferable something that doesn’t need a lot light. Any suggestions besides the plant in the video?

    Thanks

I'm propagating my own pothos from a friend's cuttings at the moment - I think this is such a beautiful plant. My goal is to have one that vines all around my apartment someday!

Love your videos, Summer! Keep them coming!

My neighbor had had one in a hanging pot, probably 10 vines and each vine had to have been at least twelve feet long! It had hung from her ceiling in front of a 48" x 48" sunny window!

There are I believe a few variants of Pothos on the market. Regular Pothos is slightly variegated, and the variegation is somewhat yellow. Marble Queen is more striking, especially when grown in bright light, with cream-colored variegation, and typically more of it.

I have pothos that are descendants of a plant my uncle got when he had knee surgery circa 1981. So it’s going on 40 years old now. It’s essentially an indoor weed and almost impossible to kill, in my case surviving multiple overwatering and drought incidents over the decades.

When they get too scraggly simply propagate from cuttings and start over in fresh soil. It grows faster than any other houseplant. I would avoid direct sun in brighter climates - they can burn and the leaves get washed out.

On my first visit to Maui we drove to the hotel from the airport and I stepped out of the car to get the luggage. We were parked next to some huge palm trees and it took me a minute to realize the beautiful vines growing up the trees with their 4 foot wide leaves were in fact pothos. I felt like a Lilliputian! It’s terribly invasive all over the islands and not welcome since it’s poisonous and doesn’t support native wildlife (I’ve never seen an insect on mine in 40 years).

Just wanted to say thank you for this wonderful series. I am watching them all and enjoying them immensely. I have a community garden plot, however, since last fall my addiction to inside plants has"blossomed." I seem to be powerless as I see new species. My grandfather was a botonist by avocation and although I never met him, I feel very close to him as I take to all my new friends!

I've had pothos all of my life. My oldest plant is one. I have a cutting from one that is in a pot at work and it's tendrils run all around the outside of my cube. I also bought a couple cultivars recently, a satin and a Brazil. Both beautiful.

I have one of these. And every once in a while some leaves will turn yellow. Does anyone know why that happens?

I always think of my northern Australian friends whenever I see a pothos. This plant is basically a biblical plague to them! I lived in Queensland for two years where it ran amok so one day I found an old ladder, propped it against the back wall and gave the invader a new purpose. Sometimes it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness 😉👍

I like how bright the leaves are, sit under an acer and watch the colors chane. Just put spinch, oregano and six types of chilli down, and played with a beautiful spider at the tap, it was showering, drinking and playing, beautiful color.

This plant is literally everywhere in where I live. I often pick it up from bushes near my office. My problem is when I hang it, they grows upward and make it look kinda awkward as hanging plant. I end up just make it trailing on the wall instead of hanging it. Anyone else having the same problem?

This plant is one of my favorites! Thank you for informative video! I love your episodes. To be honest you were one of couple plantubers, who inspired me to start my own YouTube channel related to plants! Best wishes from Lithuania! 🌿💕

Thanks for the information! Golden Pothos was the first plant I had when I moved into my own place, my gateway plant into the 60-70+ plants in my apartment I have now! Was also my first experience with houseplant pests, within a month it was covered in mealy bugs! Got to learn fast how to get rid of mealy bugs.
