The Reality of Reality: A Tale of Five Senses

  • Yayınlanma Tarihi:  3 ay önce
  • Your eyes and ears don’t tell you the truth. That’s not what they’re for. The senses evolved to enable us to survive and succeed in the world, not to represent it accurately. Now, for the first time, science is revealing exactly how the sense organs receive information, process it, and pass it to the brain, providing deep insight into why we experience the world the way we do—and what it might be like for future technology to transform such experiences, perhaps allowing us to see infrared light or feel magnetic north. Join an eminent group of neuroscientists and philosophers for an ear, tongue, nose and eye-opening adventure that challenges everything we experience in search of the true nature of reality. PARTICIPANTS: Christine Constantinople, Donald Hoffman, Stavros Lomvardas, Beau Lotto, Anil Seth MODERATOR: Elizabeth Vargas MORE INFO ABOUT THE PROGRAM AND PARTICIPANTS: https://www.worldsciencefestival.com/programs/the-reality-of-reality-a-tale-of-five-senses/ This program is part of the BIG IDEAS SERIES, made possible with support from the JOHN TEMPLETON FOUNDATION. Perhaps light, matter, and consciousness are just arbitrary aspects of what we've symbolically quantified within a 4th dimensional projection of crystalline silicon lattice structures that spin inside the core of planets like our own, or orbit around stars to harness energy, and project the universe we've come to "know".

I remind myself frequently the lesson I learned watching all those magicians on TV in the late 50s/early 60s.
I concluded that no matter how many 'A's' I got on my report card, my brain could be fooled, and so could my Mom's. She showed me some optical illusions and Escher prints in some books ...

02:36 - I know where it's going do I?.... Oh yes, my greatest want is.... "To become like a king or be like royalty or a god". ...Uh, got that wrong. Let me guess, you also got it wrong; your greatest need was.... Brexit or Donald Trump to be re-elected ...well you got wrong didn't you?

Much ado about nothing. Replace the people with cameras. Take a picture of a baseball. All the photos show the same thing. The only differences are created by the cameras and their positions. Now take sequential photos in which each photo is captured from the same position. The only differences in the photos are the result of differences in the cameras themselves. Reality exists whether YOU are a good camera or a bad one.

Problem solved, 2 chooses , infinity or geometry, sit we escapes from infinity, follow the 1st to see a way out of infinity. Answer solved, simple to see, the 1st isn't us and we aren't the 1st, joined are we in the 1st geometry.

Our perceptions have given us a sufficient representation of reality to have survived tens of thousands of years, developed agriculture, huge social structures, incredibly complex machines, traveled to the moon, sent robots to other planets and even completely out of our solar system, descriptions of nature that predict the movements of planets, the explosion of stars, and so much more. That's a pretty good handle on reality. These people are like little kids thinking that the world goes away if they cover their eyes.

At this moment, I am playing a game of cat and mouse with a ghost. To truly feel alive, one has to come close to the paradox of life and death. It is the place where the road ends for science. It is the place where consciousness can exist without the flesh. It is where the soul can live, hidden in the unmanifested paradox of existence.

    Subtitles

If you would like to add subtitles to our English videos, please follow the steps below. We would be so grateful for your help!

    Here’s the process:

Create or sign in to your existing YouTube channel (you must have a channel to add subtitles).

Visit our YouTube channel and follow the instructions on the image below.

Select the language you would like to add. YouTube will automatically provide a line-by-line English transcript with a box for you to input translated text.

When you finish translating a video, the subtitles will automatically start a peer review process. You can speed up this process by asking friends to review and approve the subtitles. They will also need a YouTube account. On the subtitle submission page, they can make any necessary changes and click "Submit Contribution." You can find detailed instructions from YouTube.

Interesting but I dont agree that what we fear most is not knowing. I think that it is the place of paradise before haven eaten the famous apple of knowledge and being in a state of total openness and playfull creativity - maybe our greatest fear is not being loved - literally being outside the sea of love. And of course it makes a great difference what attitude and focus we have when being in relation to the world. If you are in loving kindness you will experience the now differently than if you are angry or scared or depressed etc - in a way you are like a creative instrument at the same time tuning and allowing attunement -

27:19 "wearing a backpack makes visual angle appear steeper than without a backpack...it's because of the effort required..." <<< or is it just because a being back heavy makes you lean more forward changing your angle towards the slope plus how the balance sensors of your ears interpret it.
