Quick note: It's fair criticism that I didn't do a software review or get into the limitations of iOS on what is, I think inarguably, massive hardware improvements: I felt like the only real differences were hardware and the new Pro changed nothing in terms of the software story, and I was already 30 minutes in. In other words, whatever you could do with iOS 12 on iPad 10.5-inch, Animoji-style stuff aside, you could do on iOS 12 on iPad 11-inch. If you were looking for that and I didn't give it to you, my bad. (I think it's safe to say that's what contributed to more negative points in other reviews.)

That said, I’m happy to cover iOS 12 and how Apple can move the iPad forward with iOS 13 and iOS 14 in a follow up video if anyone is interested?

(Avoiding nerdy niche quick fixes will be key.)

I take my iPad Pro off of the folio keyboard case when I just want to use it in tablet mode.

The power button on top isn’t much of a concern for me on iPad because I’m always using it with a Smart Cover. I only really use that thing for full shutdowns. I don’t need the power button taking up valuable real estate on the sides where I need to hold the thing.

Just saying, as a musician, losing that jack is a huge pain for using it as a main device.

I’ve had my 11” iPad Pro since launch day. I tried to hold back but in the end I couldn’t help myself. It’s my third iPad. I have had more fun with this than any of the others. I got Notability and am taking notes with it instead of my Moleskine. I’m editing photos on Lightroom CC. I’m using it as a portable whiteboard when talking to people at work. YouTube videos are great. I love the display size and tiny bezels. It’s fast! I love the new gestures. I have a laptop (Dell, Windows 10) and I keep using it for what laptops do best. I don’t need/want this to be a laptop replacement. I need/want it to be a fantastic tablet that does more than ever before. I do agree with many observers that an iPadOS that was more laptop-like would be good. I think a mouse is a must if you’re going to use a keyboard. That would make it an even better tablet. I also agree that letting the USB-C port do what USB-C ports are supposed to do (like the USB-C port on my Dell) would make a ton of sense. But for now I’m super-happy and I’m guessing Apple and third parties will make this even better over time.

Ya know? The 2nd gen iPad Pros, like the older 10.5 and 12.9 inch screen models were no slouches in the power and hardware department either.
I really can't afford the new 12.9 inch iPad Pros, but I bet I can get refurbished 2nd gen 12.9 inch screen iPad much cheaper, now.
A $2000 top end 1 TB storage iPad Pro is just ridiculous!

Uh, bezels are still there, just further minimised. Bezels are NOT gone, even on iPhone.

I am not an apple person. I use android and have no intention of switching to iphone.I have nothing against apple, I just prefer android. however, IOS seems like it has a lot more going for it on tablet sized devices such as the ipad pro. Android is great in my opinion but it was always missing something when it came to tablets. As soon as I saw the video that came out a few days ago of someone editing a video on an ipad and the video where they were creating music with it, I knew I needed one of these new ipad pros. Specifically to work on my own music (I mix, write, and play music, specifically guitar but thats besides the point) would I like to get an android tablet like this some day? sure! but as of right now, the ipad pro has this following of professionals (ya go figure for the "pro series device) that are creating apps and supporting ipads in a way that android cant rival as of right now...at lwast not in terms of what I use it for. I dont really see the point of fighting over which is better, IOS or Android, instead I pick my devices based off what I need them for. for my phone, android is wonderful and more open then IOS currently is. And for a my tablet, IOS has support and preformace that cant be matched by android at least on their ipad pros with the new A12X CPU. Neither my phone (Google pixel 2 Xl) nor my ipad (Ipad pro 2018 256Gb) are bad devices. Rather, just different devices being used for different things. IOS isnt for everyone, and neither is android. the sooner people realize that and stop fighting each other, the better.

You lost me a bit with gushing about the Homepod, I can understand why it might be good-ish for a tiny student dorm room and dramatic sounding music but i's a niche product with a sound signature that you either love or wince at, especially when compared to a cheaper, albeit bulkier, but well thought out HiFi separates system, and Siri... is pretty terrible, or was when I last used it. Is it up to Google or even Alexa standards, yet? I hope Homepod mark 2 is a little larger and has a more balanced sound and that Apple replace Siri. Good on Apple for innovating, keeps things interesting.

As usual a wonderful thorough review Rene. As for the iPad, I am just in aw of this thing. As foolish as it may sound I am so tempting to trade in my iPad Pro 10.5 for it. The sheer power alone is the attraction and then add in the aesthetics of it and well, Apple really know how to “set the hook”. But being a realistic, I am not going for it. I enjoy my armature photography/videography work that I do and as it stands my workflow, goes from iPhone to cloud to iPad Pro and editing begins in either Affinity Photo or LumaFusion. This works so well for me that I can’t remember the last time I picked up my laptop. And let’s face it, the iPad Pro 10.5 is no slouches. It may not be the beast the new one is but it’s still a beast. So as I wipe the drool from my face, what I have I am proud of and am sticking with it. Good try Apple and what a beautiful and groundbreaking thing you’ve made. Well done Rene.

I take issue with this whole recycled aluminium point that everyone keeps repeating like they’ve just cured world hunger or something. Yes, it itself is a good thing for the environment, but Apple hasn’t done this for those reasons. Apple has found a way to charge people more for their products, yet significantly cut down their manufacturing overheads (or at least a portion). Why are people applauding a companies ability to charge you more?! Apple doesn’t give a shit about the environment, much less the poor men, woman and children being slave driven at a lack of a humane wage, to meet demands so you people can have shiny shit. It’s ducking outrageous how people are quick to turn a blind eye to actual issues and pretend to give a shit about recycled tin. Great. How about a fairer wage for those in poverty making the products. Oh wait, that doesn’t sound good on a main stage product launch because it might actually give away to horrible truth as to the underpinnings of these companies. Out of fairness, it ain’t just Apple, but it goes without saying.

Shame I swapped back to Apple 2017 with MacBook Pro 15 and the iPad 12.9 now Apple seems to be going android and pushing out product after product and price up and up. Being on s veterans pension and do photography for my health rather than the bottle. But in Australia you USA guys say wow expensive well over here we see almost double the price on all there gear. It’s really making life hard. As I would always say Apple never had to flog 2-3 laptops a yr and other yet iPhones iPads and I’d say MacBooks are going to go wild. And a $2000 usa is like 3700 here or more so add a 2000 Xs iPhone and crap adobe creative is USA price as well so looks like I have to maybe running ny gear as far as I can but going to android and Toshiba boo as I love Apple but can’t keep pumping out $5000 and that’s no MacBook for my Lightroom Photoshop. Such a shame I started on the old black and white apple stuff. Yet now I get ohh apple are pushing products are coming out so fast and price rise massive a MacBook Pro 15 512gb 4300 2017. It was what you pay for but it’s not really there are fewer programs coming with it the camera stuff is all software driven. So being in Australia I think they are really going to loose a lot of people as so many changed from iphone this yr for the first time. Do to massive cost such a Shame. Yet as on a veterans pension it will either put me in debt or swap to cheaper stuff that even if have to replace will still be equal or under Apple. As I don’t see them saying ohh bring in last yr model and will give you a large discount for something not even 7months old. Are they going to also go like pc and start demanding large ram upgrades and other for new software. Seems as though they have gone on the fast money rather than the long time supporting customers that enjoyed good product and speed. Yet hung in why there software choices where way over priced and minimal. Schools and people like myself are going to be pushed to the side while they just bring out another version in 6 months like every pc and android but with them I guess you can put the ram in yourself and do other upgrades while Apple hold you random to apple or nothing. Maybe with the billions let other countries pay what the USA price is as its not cheap but better than 37% more then add the rest. Even the bloody pencil and the keyboard cover from my 12.9 iPad is not going to work plus the fact I like my expensive headphones Boss that plug in. Face ID with no back up touch. Well one slight problem with a camera not going what then a pad that can’t unlock or work at all. If security is so big why could there not be a bsck up as iris recognition is safest yet that has a bio scan back up. I gather face detection was not that cheap either yet already it’s said younger people and twins should be fun. Or don’t get a sinus Infection where u get swelling in deep areas of the face. Yet Apple would not see this comment or really give a crap as I’m in Australia and on veterans pension do probably not a person they want using or aiming for there new approach to the public. Looks great would love one and a iPhone to go with it and even my MacBook Pro will be out of the picture really soon. But a 10,000 phone Ipad snd laptop deal plus throw away any parts that would work with the old gear as well. I can’t see happening. Thanks. Another kick in the face especially staying with photography to help ptsd and other physical injuries that mean no job ever again. Maybe it’s the bonus to loosing my family as well yet giving them everything so my kids would not miss out. Doing the old I’ll start again. Yet 47 a prices I gave up having a house or nice car. Thanks Apple glad I stuck up for the company yrs back lol.

Well, I think about the iPad Pro as a laptop replacement. My MacBook Air is from 2011 and my 3 year old iPad Pro 1st generation is used far more often. I do like the new design. But it have to save some money for a couple of months beforr I can actually afford it 😩

Am I the only one in the world looking for an even bigger iPad? iPad Studio, iPad Maxxx etc? I would pay top dollar (and would probably have to) for a 13-15 inch screen or even bigger - 17 inches. That would be my dream. 17 inch laptops seem to be going away but you cannot beat that sized screen for proper movie or Netflix bingeing on the go. I don't even care about bezels at this point. Thin or no bezels is a weird goal to shoot for and we will get there in the next 10 years, but it doesn't exist for me when I am watching films in the dark, at that point I don't care how much bezel you got going on.

I was hyped but after watching a few videos I'm kinda meh on it now... Been holding off on getting an iPad Pro for over a year now waiting for this but I might just grab a 2017 10.5". I can't justify the price difference. It does look amazing but 350$ more.... I don't know. I doubt it
