really enjoyed this type of video. More chill, good information and well presented without being over the top.

My fx 4300 still runs, but I'll upgrade to a 2600 or 3600 depending on their release

I'd like to see this comparison again at $500 with the amd system using a amd gpu. I think that'd be somewhat fair because amd doesn't have competition for the rtx 20 series cards yet.

From me the situation is different. You can built an AMD system with high end motherboard that is cheper than Intel. Then cheap out on cpu for example 2600. AMD motherboards will support 3rd generation ryzen. You can upgrade later if needed.

Anthony, with the money you save buying AMD you can put towards fixing your hair.

The one thing that AMD has over Intel is the upgradeability of the CPU on current motherboards.

upgrade the 2600 to a 1700 since you have 15$ more, also currently the 8400 is $199.99

Hoping to see what Ryzen 3000 does to the CPU market. Bring more competition from Intel? Let's hope so!

Can you redo this at around $1300 USD (about the value of the computer I built)

I don't know how CPU performance are these days, but in Nvidia against AMD when they sell similar performance graphic boards, the AMD ones already come overclocked, they spend more energy and have higher temperatures. So if you overclock Nvidia you can go further, put more load into it, because it's harder to make it overheat. I thought it would be the same with CPUs, but it seems that AMD is really up to par with Intel nowadays, although I would like to see CPU temperatures in those tests, those temperatures should be the same because if Intel had a lower temperature it could be overclocked more.

wtf is the "amd build" using a nvidia GPU?.. so this is just a CPU comparison then?

I feel they cheated on AMD here. They adjusted the intel specs for something that can't be overclocked(While improving specs and saving cost) when in the first place of the video that one of their requirements was it HAD to be an overclockable CPU.

isn't the i3-8350k better than the i5-8400? Much higher base clock, even when the 8400 goes into turbo and plus its cheaper

When GPU are $1000. Then AMD processors are the best.

Linus you should do a AMD vs Intel reliability / compatibility shootout. One of the reasons I left AMD back in the Athlon days was the chipsets were buggy and the USB ports always seemed to have issues vs the Intel platforms. AKA which platform is more stable especially when we talk about AMD winning with overclocking.

Something not mentioned in the video is value over time, I.E upgradability. Would love to see a video where they make approximations of each parts viable lifetime, and show plausible current and future upgradepaths and what the value preposition becomes then.

  • fmalone03
    fmalone03 2 gün önce

AMD also has a upgrade path. Intel regularly dumps support for current chipsets when they release a new CPU even though the performance gains are minimal and after a couple of years if you are looking for upgrades you will more than likely have to change your motherboard and CPU at once on Intel.

If it’s AMD vs Intel you have to go with an AMD GPU ;)

LOL american prices are seriously FUCKED. In Canada, I3 8350k is $320+ and the ryzen 5 2600 is $230, Come to Canada and you'll definitely see the price to performance that AMD has over swagtel. Ryzen 5 2600 and 2600x shit all over the I3 and cost 30% less, its literally a no brainer. The real title of this video should be, "Why does everyone like to be shit on by Intel"

Its not the budget option, is the logical option. Thats like saying every bag other than gucci is just a budget bag, when in reality some shit is just overpriced swag trash.

llinus AMD is for smart people like me that want the best for my money ,,I build miners and I am glad I bought the right RX590 NITRO cards for my miners and they work great and I see Nvidia trying to keep up with the 200 to 250 usd cards and I am glad to see the MH/z clock listings recently

Productivity would also be interesting as i'm guessing the intel chip would win in premiere (quicksync) but the Ryzen chip would smash rendering? Nice video; worth a part 2 for productivity and then an all round balance?

For $750, i see there's a little bit of value difference. Will that increase/decrease based on the cost range like at $500 or even $1000?

  • furyp100
    furyp100 2 gün önce

I think it would be more reasonable to just compare motherboard and cpu prices since cases, psu, ram, and gpu doesn't matter for amd vs intel comparisons

So basically AMD is better no matter how you try to spin it. Just Linus is an intel-shill and can’t bring himself to outright admit that fact.

Really loved this video! I've got plenty of friends making commitments to PC Gaming and this is a great introduction to budgeting their systems out! I really would have wished that you mentioned something about an i7's value proposition for this budget as I feel like many people automatically jump to them.
